Summer in Lake Harmony — Lake Days, Gazebo Evenings, Fire-Pit Nights
Everyone knows the Poconos in ski season. We think summer is the better-kept secret: mornings at a lake beach you can walk to, afternoons on a paddleboard or a Hickory Run trail, and long evenings that drift from the gazebo table to the fire pit without anyone touching a car key.
Our chalet in Lake Harmony Estates — 5 bedrooms, 7 beds, 2.5 baths, sleeping 14 across 2,000+ square feet — was set up for exactly that rhythm. Here is how we'd spend a summer week, with real drive times from our driveway.
The Lake in Summer: Swim, Paddle, Float
Lake Harmony is a natural Pocono lake, and the Lake Harmony Estates beach is a short walk from our front door — lake days here start on foot, with no parking pass and no cooler schlep. Swimming season generally runs from late May into September, when the water is at its warmest.
When you want to get out on the water, two rental operations serve the lake. Yeti WaterSports, based at Split Rock Resort about 5 minutes around the lake, rents kayaks, tandem kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and pontoon boats through the summer season. Lake Harmony Watersports, on North Lake Drive a few minutes from the chalet, runs pontoon rentals plus water-ski, wakeboard, and tubing sessions behind a real tow boat. Summer weekends book up, so reserve a day or two ahead.
Back at the house, swimsuits dry on the porch while dinner hits the Viking grill. Our location page maps the walk to the beach — and to the bars and restaurants a short stroll away — and our guide to things to do in Lake Harmony covers the rest of the town.
The Backyard in Summer: Gazebo Dinners and Fire-Pit Nights
Our backyard is the amenity guests talk about most in summer. The 20-foot lighted gazebo seats 10 for dinner, the Viking grill handles the cooking, and the fire pit is ringed by 10 Adirondack chairs for the s'mores shift that follows.
The whole quarter-acre yard is fully fenced, which quietly changes a family trip: dogs run off-leash, little kids roam, and the adults actually get to sit down. We're genuinely pet-friendly — the fence was built with dogs in mind. Between swims, the hammock and porch swing handle nap duty.
And because we sit on the Pocono plateau, nights cool off even in July — which is why the 6-person hot tub earns its keep in August, and the 8-person wet/dry sauna feels great after a rafting day. If it pours, the speakeasy billiard room with its 8-foot pool table and wet bar, 8 smart 65" TVs, and 1 GB WiFi keep 14 people happily occupied. See the full rundown on our amenities page and the photos in our gallery.
Big Boulder in Summer — and Kalahari When It Rains
Big Boulder is 3 minutes from our driveway, and in summer the mountain's lake side takes over: Big Boulder Lake runs a beach, pool, and boating scene from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, plus September weekends (access policies vary by season, so check ahead). Jack Frost, its sister hill 5 minutes away, goes quiet until the lifts spin — our Big Boulder vs. Jack Frost guide covers the winter side.
Rainy day? Kalahari Resort is 25 minutes away, with America's largest indoor waterpark — roughly 220,000 square feet kept warm year-round, and day passes available. Our guide to staying near Kalahari explains how we do it: waterpark by day, our quiet chalet by night. Closer still, the Lake Harmony area has bowling, an arcade, and a movie theater (paid access) — all minutes from the house.
| Where | From the chalet | Best for |

Hikes, Boulder Field, and Lehigh Gorge Rafting
Hickory Run State Park, 20 minutes from the chalet, holds the Poconos' strangest sight: Boulder Field, a bare, roughly 16-acre sea of ice-age boulders that's a National Natural Landmark. Kids climb it for an hour and sleep the whole drive home. The park also has about 40 miles of trails, Hawk Falls, and a sandy swimming beach at Sand Spring Lake in season — our Hickory Run and Boulder Field guide has the full day plan.
For bigger adrenaline, Lehigh Gorge whitewater rafting launches near Jim Thorpe, 20 minutes away. Licensed outfitters on the river include Pocono Whitewater, Whitewater Challengers, and Jim Thorpe River Adventures; scheduled dam-release weekends bring livelier rapids, while gentler family floats run most summer days — check each outfitter's current calendar when you book. Pair rafting with the shops and railroad in town using our Jim Thorpe day-trip guide, then come home to the hot tub.
Race Weekends at Pocono Raceway
Pocono Raceway — the Tricky Triangle — is 10 minutes from the chalet, and its marquee NASCAR Cup Series weekend, The Great American Getaway 400, runs each June as part of a full tripleheader slate. The energy around Lake Harmony that week is real: campers rolling in, engines echoing off the plateau, every grill in town lit.
The track stays busy through summer with racing experiences and special events, so check the current schedule at poconoraceway.com. A house that sleeps 14 this close to the gates makes a natural race-crew headquarters — our Pocono Raceway weekend guide covers timing, traffic, and how we'd plan it.
July 4th Week — and Why Summer Books Out First
July 4th is the biggest week of our summer, and it's always the first to go. The lake community typically celebrates with fireworks over the water — check the current schedule when you book — and our backyard was made for the occasion: gazebo dinner for 10, Viking grill going, fire pit and 10 Adirondack chairs for the show.
With 5 bedrooms and 7 beds sleeping 14, we host a lot of multi-family July reunions, and those groups tend to rebook before they leave — we've earned 5.0 stars from our guests, part of 790 guest reviews averaging 4.93 stars across our properties over 7 years of hosting (read them on our reviews page). We're about 2 hours from NYC and 1.5 from Philadelphia, so holiday weeks fill months out. If summer is your window, check dates and book direct — booking direct puts you directly in touch with Doug, Nicholas, and Kellie.
